Book Review – Stay: A Bleeding Stars Novel

“You’re killin’ me darlin'”
“And you’re saving me”

Book Snippet

I owe her my life and I have three months to repay that debt. What I never should have done was touch her. Kiss her. Take her to my bed.

She saves him, and he falls for her. Both don’t realize just how broken they are until they save each other. Willow has lost everyone she has ever loved. Ash runs through girls like they’re guitar picks. When Willow finds Ash clinging to life in front of her store, neither of them ever knew it would take them on a journey of a lifetime.

Why This Book…

Well, to be honest, I wasn’t planning on doing a review for this book. I had used one of my free credits on audible to get this book. I didn’t think I would fall in love with it as much as I did. So, I bought the physical copy and decided to share the book with you! This was my first book to read by A. L. Jackson,  can’t wait to read more. She puts so much emotion into the words, that I felt exactly what the characters were feeling.

Ash and Willow’s story is an emotional roller coaster and is one that is worth the ride. Willow is dealing with a lot of loss, including losing her store. Enter Ash, the hot and yummy musician who offers Willow an offer she can’t refuse. In exchange for saving his life, he offers to pay for her store. Willow being the stubborn woman she is, will not take the money. So, in exchange for Ash paying for the store, she redesigns his bedroom. As the two get to know each other, their stories unfold into a beautiful adventure.

Stay is a standalone novel in the Bleeding Stars Series. This was the first in the series I have read and you are in for a beautiful and emotional ride that will have you falling in love through every page.

A. L. Jackson

She is a  best-selling author of contemporary romance, who puts enough emotion and sexy into her writing, you can’t help fall in love with her books. When she isn’t writing, you can find her sipping cocktails or her nose in a book.

Why You Should Dance Naked in Front of the Mirror!

Hehe, I got your attention!Don’t worry darlin’, there’s a reason behind my title, and I’m about to tell you what that reason is!

Well, you know all those articles and posts about how you need to look a certain way to be beautiful, or if you have this look you’ll be beautiful? Well, honey I call bullshit! Make-up, clothes, and all that “you need to be this size if you want to be beautiful,” is a bunch of bologna!

So, let me tell you a little bit about me! Hi, I’m Jessie and guess what, I am not a size 6! Nope, I am a size 18, and I am proud to be me! I dealt with a lot of bullying about my weight, sadly most of that bullying came from a family member. That bullying made me depressed to be the size I am, and I wanted to be that model in the magazine. I thought, I would never be beautiful or that anyone would love me for me.

Oh, was I wrong! I can thank my momma, my sisters, and my husband for helping me love myself!

You see, self-confidence is a big importance in my life, and I want to share it with all of you. To me your beauty is not the way you dress, the makeup you wear, or the size you are. Your beauty is your personality! It’s what is on the inside that makes you beautiful. Trust me, I have met girls that are super fit and have flawless skin and their makeup is always on “fleek,” but their personalities make them plain ugly!

Why You Should Dance Naked in Front of the Mirror!

Now, you’re probably thinking, “what the heck does that have to do with dancing in front of the mirror naked?” Well you have to love yourself and see passed all those insecurities and flaws to see your beauty. So, don’t fear the mirror. I don’t! in fact, I’ll do my hair and make-up in my undies. (Yep, I just got personal!). I’m not afraid to show myself off, because I know I am beautiful. My personality and my heart and the definition of my beauty.

“Hey there beautiful. Go look in the mirror. Really look at yourself. Past the insecurities, past everything you think is wrong. You are beautiful. Remember that!”

Do I have my days where my hair is a complete mess? Yep! Do I have days where I wear a full face of makeup and I dress up? Yep! Most days for me though, are jeans a t-shirt, and my hair thrown in a ponytail. Those are the days I feel most beautiful, because I am a simple girl who knows beauty is not on the outside!

There are so many girls out there that need this realization, and if need be I’ll be the center of attention to get girls to realize they are gorgeous no matter what that stupid article may say! Although, I may be freaking out on the inside because I’m socially awkward, I’ll do what I need to. Because baby let me tell ya, I have gumption, and you need that gumption also! (Not entirely sure what that word means, but I like it!)

Gumption: courage, spunk, guts (I looked it up)

Yes, I am a girl with anxiety and depression, but I will fight for girls to have confidence. That’s what I want girls to know! They don’t need to look like those skinny minis in the magazines or look like what society thinks is the “perfect” body. There is no “perfect” body. You have the “perfect” body just by being you.

“Your skin isn’t paper; don’t cut it.
Your face isn’t a mask; don’t cover it.
Your size isn’t a book; don’t judge it.
Your life isn’t a film; don’t end it.

I Don’t Need Facts

While, I could put scientific facts in this post, I don’t need science to tell me that my body isn’t the ideal body. My body is mine, it’s perfect for me! Now, am I losing weight? Yes, but I don’t want to be a size 6. I just want to be able to not run out of breath after jogging a half mile. So, let me repeat myself, you are beautiful. We have to be a community of self-confident women, which tell each other we are perfect the way we are.

Screw what society says because society sucks! Besides I have a man who loves me the way I am and I don’t need anyone else’s opinion. His opinion and my opinion are all I need. Speaking of men, if yours doesn’t tell you you’re beautiful or perfect the way you are, then honey smack him upside the head and kick his butt! He’s nuts, if he doesn’t love what’s right in front of him!

“True beauty is reflected in her soul” – Aubrey Hepburn

So, if you take anything away from this, please know you are beautiful the way you are.

In conclusion, always love yourself! God made you to be an original, not a copy!

Two Underrated Books That I Think Need More Credit

Book 1 – Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

This first time I read this book was for my high school English class (I can’t remember which grade). I couldn’t put the book down! I was always ahead of the class reading schedule and ended up reading the book on my own. Which, of course I was called an overachiever and made fun of for. I didn’t care the book was that good!

Book Snippet

Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to burn books, which are forbidden, being the source of all discord and unhappiness. (Goodreads)

The world Guy lives in, is run by television and a radio station. It’s policed by poisonous mechanical hound dogs, and firefighters who set fires instead of put them out.

As the story goes on, Guy’s curiosity gets the best of him and he looks to his wife for help, but she is more interested in TV, than her husband’s book obsession. Guy then turns to Faber, a retired English professor. They plan to overthrow the craziness of the world they live in by planting books in all firefighter’s homes. Eventually, Guy gets betrayed by his wife and has to burn his own home down. He manages to escape and get away. He ends up finding a group of “book lovers” who want to bring books back into the world.

Favorite Quotes:

“Stuff your eyes with wonder, he said, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”

“If you hide your ignorance, no one will hit you and you’ll never learn.”

“The good writers touch life often. The mediocre ones run a quick hand over her. The bad ones rape her and leave her for the flies.”

What Drew Me to the Book

Automatically, I think the reason this book caught my attention was because how can anyone just burn books! To me books were a beautiful and amazing thing, which no one should want to destroy, but according to the dystopian world Guy lived in they were these awful things that didn’t belong in their world. Books have so much more imagination in them than any TV show, or radio show.

I’m purchasing this book soon to reread and add back to my book collection!

Book 2 – The Sun Also Rises by Earnest Hemingway

This was the very first book I read by Hemingway. Also, I didn’t read it until my first semester as a college, yes I said college, sophomore. I have to think my American Lit professor for even introducing this book into my life!

I fell in love with Hemingway’s writing style, even though I once thought he was probably going to be boring and I would fall asleep through his work. Well, I was wrong!

Book Snippet

A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, the novel introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. (Goodreads)

The amount of description Hemingway put into his writing, truly makes you feel like you are in the exact place he is writing about. The way he has the characters move throughout the story makes them seem invincible, like they can rule the world. Now, this book changed the way I read many other books, I stopped looking at the words and started to feel them. (I know that sounds creepy). The characters at times do seem boring and Lady Brett needs to just pick one man and stick with him.

What Drew Me to the Book

I honestly have no idea. I just know as soon as I started reading I couldn’t stop. In fact, I think I was one of the only students that actually read the entire book. The book can seem to drag and be a bit boring because of the style Hemingway chose to write, but it’s definitely one book I continue to go back to.

Favorite Quotes:

“I can’t stand it to think my life is going so fast and I’m not really living it.”

“Don’t you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you’re not taking advantage of it? Do you realize you’ve lived nearly half the time you have to live already?”

“Isn’t it pretty to think so.”

Let me know if you have any underrated books I should check out!

Book Review: Rusty Nailed By Alice Clayton

“Only so he could feel my heart. Yep. That’s the only reason. Heart was in fact delighted to have Simon home early; she loved a good romantic reunion. Other areas were delighted as well.” – Rusty Nailed pg. 18

Book Snippet

Who knew that distance could make sexy times that much better! Simon and Caroline are back and hotter than ever in this sequel to Wallbanger! Their relationship is put to the test when Caroline gets swamped at work and Simon decides to take some time off. No matter what is thrown at this couple, they always seem to fight through it! Oh, and once again the title page has you wanting more!

“Dirty talk is an art. Do it too often, it becomes routine. Never do it, and you’re missing something. Simon did it just right. He was like a perfect bowl of smutty porridge: just right.”

Why this Book

Hello! I had to finish Simon and Caroline’s story. Let me tell ya, it was headed to a bed, a counter, and even a new home! I didn’t think their relationship could get any steamier, but Alice proved me wrong! I was looking forward to getting through this book, until I wasn’t.

I loved Wallbanger, but Rusty Nailed starting to be slow for me. I started to feel like their relationship was dragging on. So, after 10 chapters in I wanted to give up, but I also wanted to see where Simon and Caroline’s relationship would go. In order to finish the book, I broke down and bought the audio version. *GASP* I know, I’m a bad book nerd, but I wanted to get through the book. Simon and Caroline’s relationship is one of my favorite book relationships. In fact, it was one if the best I have read in a long time!

I powered through it! The story sped up and piece by piece you got to see their relationship grow. You also got to see what happened with all the other lovely couples in this story. Like, did Neil really cheat? Also if you loved Clive, you’ll never guess what happens!

Oh let me tell you about this crazy cat! He goes missing!!! To find out more you will just have to get yourself a copy to see what happens!

Alice Clayton

From the cosmetics industry to USA Today best-selling author. She has become a new favorite author of mine and I cannot wait to read more of her work.
