My Inspiration to Keep Going

Day 4 of the writing challenge is to write about someone who inspires you. So, of course, I had to run through all the people in my life and landed on the one person.  As you have read, I have my times when I want to quit and give up, but then I look at this person and I realize if he’s been through everything he has and keeps going then I can too.

A lot of people read my post entitled The Accident: November 28, 2016. In fact, it got the most views ever on my blog. That post was about the worst day of my life, I could have lost my husband, but I didn’t. He powered through the next three months of recovery like it was nobody’s business and I couldn’t be more proud of him. Now, fast forward to the beginning of May, and say hello to my husband’s ACL tear. You know that saying if it’s not one thing it’s another?  Well, that’s sort of been our life since November, but hey we are getting through it.

My Hubby, My Inspiration!

Now to the reason why this guy happens to be my inspiration to keep going. He broke his leg, and now has a rod for his tibia, he broke his fingers, and had pins stuck in them, and broke his ribs and sternum, but you know what that never stopped him. It took three long months of healing and physical therapy, then he was back to work. He went back to work full force and worked his butt off. He never complained, never said this is too hard, I’m done. My husband powered through whatever was thrown at him.

Now, I get to be by his side again as he recovers from his ACL repair surgery. Let me tell you this tidbit about my husband, he absolutely hates sitting on his butt. If he can’t be up doing something, he goes stir crazy. He is so ready to heal and get back to work. The determination I see in his is what keeps me going. I want to wake up and have his mindset to conquer the day by taking it head on.  I can’t give up right now because one he needs me, and two he needs to see that I am strong enough to handle things while he’s down. He is always picking me up when I’m down and always there when I need to unload all my worries. So, I need to be his pick me up and his place to unload his worries.

Conquering Fear

My hubby also has a fear of being put under anesthesia. The first time he was ever put under was after the accident when they had to fix his broken leg. He handled it like a champ, me on the other hand, I was a nervous wreck for both of us. With the ACL surgery, he was pretty nervous and didn’t want to go through with it, but he did and came out just fine. That right there makes me want to conquer some of my fears and face them just like he had.

We got a long summer ahead of us, but by having each other we can get through anything. Just like any other couple, we have our disagreements but they hardly last more than an hour or so. If they last longer it’s because he’s hard-headed and stubborn. (He will read this, so I’m throwing this in there hehe.)

Thanks for sharing, Jessie! What a powerful collection of stories about how you and your husband inspire each other. I had a freak accident myself nearly two years ago — and my parents inspired me every day to recover. I was also afraid of anesthesia!

    Keep writing and inspiring.
