Life With PCOS Week One

Hey Nerdy Peeps! I am starting something new for the blog and that’s Life With PCOS updates. I was diagnosed on a Wednesday so I figured Wednesdays will be dedicated to PCOS.

So, What is PCOS?

PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. So, what does that mean?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects a woman’s hormone levels. Women with PCOS produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones. This hormone imbalance causes them to skip menstrual periods and makes it harder for them to get pregnant.

There are symptoms that everyone has and there are some symptoms that some don’t. I’m still learning and doing my research so, as I learn so will you.

What I’ve learned so far…

I am not infertile

I will have a baby, it’ll just take time.

PCOS explains why I’m sleepy all the time.

There are so many support groups to learn from.

Vitamins will be my best friend.

My diet needs a complete overhaul.

The gym is going to be my second husband.

I can’t have sugar.

Dairy is a no-no since it is higher in testosterone.

There may not be a cure, but I will win this fight!

Why is this a big deal?

Well, my hubs and I have been trying to get pregnant for a little over a year and a half now, and well you haven’t seen a pregnancy announcement so, there’s that.

So, I went to my doctor since it was bugging me and since my cycles were off, and she decided to run some blood tests. A week and a half later I got my answer. On 8/22/18 I was diagnosed with PCOS. My entire world turned upside down because all I have heard is that PCOS causes major weight gain and infertility. I have wanted a baby ever since my nephew Kyler was born, and when my doctor gave me the news I hated it.

I cried and left work early to cry some more, only to fall asleep for two hours. The fatigue sucks with PCOS by the way. Anyway, so we started the plan to make babies and I am following it to my best ability.

Taking you on this journey helps me keep track of how everything is going. I love that I can share things with y’all and be open about my life. So, thanks for sticking with me and I promise when things change you will know.

It’s OK Not to be Perfect

Hey Nerdy Peeps! I keep seeing this quote float around on my Instagram and my Pinterest and it made me think about life. I know that sounds pretty cliché but it’s true. Let me tell you about this quote and why it’s OK not to be perfect.

it's ok not to be perfect

It’s OK not to be perfect…

So, if you’re anything like me with your mental health journey, you think you have to be perfect all the time. Well, I’m here to tell you that you’re lying to yourself. Sweetheart no one is perfect and it’s pretty much impossible to be perfect. And that’s OK! Really, it is. I’m going to give you five reasons why I’m not perfect so you know it’s OK.

I’m late to work almost every day…

Yep, you read that right. I don’t give myself enough time to get up and get ready to make it out the door on time. So, that means I am usually wearing my hair in a ponytail, no makeup, and I’m in jeans and a t-shirt. Trust me I wish I looked more professional at work, but my snooze habit limits my time.

I hate cleaning…

My couch is flooded with clothes, and there is probably 10 dogs worth of dog hair that needs to be swept up in my living alone. I still have clean dishes waiting to be put away in my dishwasher. But you know what that’s ok because eventually they will get put away and my clothes will be folded. I just hate doing it.

I am always finding ways to procrastinate…

Being a writer means I have lots of deadlines, and I have never missed one. That does mean I usually wait until almost the last second to get some things done. Same goes for most of the things I need to get done, but by some miracle I get them done on time.

I am not always positive…

Nope, you might think I am but I can be a big negative Nancy. There are just somethings that happen in my life that don’t need positivity. I always thought that always being positive would get me one step closer to perfectionism, but I will probably never reach perfectionism.

I am me…

Now you’re probably thinking well yeah you are, but what does that have to do with anything? Well, you see, I was made in God’s image and God doesn’t make perfect people. I mean Jesus wouldn’t have died for our sins if we were perfect. So that’s why I am me. I’m just a girl trying to live her life one day at a time and trust me it’s far from perfect.

it's ok not to be perfect

So, you see it’s perfectly Ok not to be perfect. (See what I did there.) Anyway, we all have our flaws and we all choose to live with them differently. Some of us will try to hide them, and some of us will flaunt what God gave us with no care in the world. My challenge for you is to stop trying to reach perfection. Just be you.

May Blogging Challenge Day 1

Hey Nerdy Peeps! Let’s say hello to May with a new blogging challenge! So I have lots of posts planned for the next 31 days. Time to sit back and smell the tulips cause I’ve got some great things to tell you about.

May Blogging Challenge Day 1

may blogging challenge day 1

Well, as most of you know I am Jessie, the girl behind Nerdy Book Life. So, here’s a recent photo and a new introduction about me. As an introduction, I am going to list five new things about me.

  1. I am an author! My first book will be out this summer, and I am working on a few anthologies.
  2. I started a graphic design business. I create book covers, teasers, logos, and other fun things that businesses or authors need. Business cards and invitations are also becoming an expertise.
  3. I’ve never met some of my closest friends. They all happen to be online buddies and they are the best friends I have ever had.
  4. I absolutely hate wearing my glasses. I’m nearsighted so I have to wear them when I’m driving or watching TV, but I can’t stand them.
  5. I have been to college 4 separate times, but have yet to graduate, and I am totally ok with that.

So, there you have a recent photo and an introduction. Now, you’re probably thinking, Jessie, where is the rest of this challenge? Don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you hanging!

Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl Book Review

Hey Nerdy Peeps! You just thought I was going to leave you with a review of Diary of an Adorable Fat Girl, you are just wrong (hehe). There was a second book, and thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources I am bringing you the delightful review of Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl!

cruise with an adorable fat girl book review

Mary Brown – our full-figured heroine – is off on a cruise. It’s the trip of a lifetime…featuring eat-all-you-can buffets and a trek through Europe with a 96-year-old widower called Frank and a flamboyant Spanish dancer called Juan Pedro in attendance. Then there’s the desperately handsome captain, the appearance of an ex-boyfriend on the ship, the time she’s mistaken for a Hollywood film star in Lisbon and tonnes of clothes shopping all over Europe.

My Review

Another amazing laugh out loud story by the amazing Bernice Bloom. In this story, you get another dose of the adorable Mary Brown and you will not be disappointed. She takes the free pass to sail around the Mediterranean for 20 days and of course, she can’t forget about the all-you-can-eat buffet.

She meets some of the greatest people especially 96-year-old war veteran Frank. He was so much fun to read about and I couldn’t get enough. Mary gets herself into all kinds of fun while on this trip and it’s too hard to resist putting it down. I loved every part of this book, and you will too! Plus, if you struggle with your weight just like I do, this book will make you love yourself, especially on a very fun vacation!

So, do me a favor if you loved Diary of an Adorable Fat girl as much as I did, then you will love Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl just as much.

Author Bio –

Hello, my name is Bernice Bloom and I am a writer (I write light-hearted rom-com style novels and also work as a magazine journalist and advertising copywriter) and jewelry designer. My recent series of novels is called ‘Adorable Fat Girl’ and it features a heavily overweight woman called Mary Brown. She is bright, funny, friendly and bonkers. She’s also fat. The books blend the comedy of her efforts to lose weight with a more serious backstory about what happened to her in the past that had led to the issues that make her prone to over-eating. I’m fascinated that there are so few overweight heroines in literature. Women can be manipulative, evil, even murderers in fiction, but not fat! Certainly not fat and beautiful with loads of friends! Then along came Mary and she’s developed quite a fan base of people who love the fact that the heroine is large. She gets lots of letters and I have ended up taking her on lots of adventures!

Call Girl by Pavan Kaur Book Review

Hey, Nerdy Peeps! Guess who finished an amazing book and wants to share it with you? Me, that’s who! So, let’s get to Call Girl by Pavan Kaur book review!

call girl pavan kaur book review

Call Girl by Pavan Kaur

First of all, I love, love, love Pavan! She brings so much love and sexiness to my shelves, that I can’t thank her enough. Her books always bring a smile to my face and I can’t wait to fill my shelves with all of her books!

Now, onto the review!

First of all, I want to be a Call Girl just like Miss Lexi! To get to travel and be spoiled by men who mainly want you just for the company, would be an awesome job. That brings me to the relationship between Lexi and Ethan, they are so funny, and I love how headstrong Lexi is.  You will learn one of the biggest reasons why she doesn’t want to date him once you read the story, but I love how she tries to keep everyone she loves safe. Now, that’s not the only twist in this story.

Pavan loves keeping you on your toes throughout every chapter and it makes this story pretty hard to put down. Some of my favorite stories have a headstrong woman who plays hard to get, and the stubborn man who wants the girl no matter what. I’m also a sucker for a knight in shining armor. They just make my inner princess happy. Oh, also this is a definite book that will pull on the Jimmy Choo’s enthusiast heartstrings.

Breaking rules never looked so hot!

So, I’m just gonna say you need this book! So, I’ll leave you a link or two or three in this post! Just pick it up, and thank me later!
